Who We Are
River Ridge High School, located in Woodstock, Georgia, is recognized as one of Cherokee County's premier public high schools, known for its tradition of academic excellence, strong school spirit, and commitment to developing well-rounded students. Serving more than 1,900 students in grades 9–12, River Ridge offers a rigorous curriculum that includes Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment, career pathways, fine arts, and competitive athletic programs, providing opportunities for every student to excel. River Ridge touts 5 recent State Championships and just received the Silver Award for Greatest Gains by the Governor's Office of Student Achievement for demonstrating high academic growth in student achievement under Georgia's Single Statewide Accountability System. The school's culture is built on high expectations, meaningful relationships, and a shared commitment to character, leadership, and service, creating an environment where students are challenged to achieve their full potential while preparing for success in college, careers, and life.

History of the Name & Mascot:
The school name was selected with regard to the landmarks located on the property and reflects a historical relationship with the Cherokee Indians in Cherokee County long ago. “River” represents the Little River that borders the school property. This river has a history embedded in Cherokee County and was a source for gold and silver in the area. The word “Ridge” was selected with regard to the high ridge located on the property near the Little River. The two names placed together, River Ridge, became the recommended name of the new high school located on Arnold Mill Road. The school mascot was selected because of the image and reputation of “knights” that denotes chivalry, character and courtesy. In medieval history, the knight was an armed and mounted warrior belonging to the nobility class, essentially a military officer. The committee agreed that teaching the character qualities of a knight would be a great way to emphasize strong leadership skills to the students.
