Twenty-eight Cherokee County School District student athletes this month signed commitment letters to play competitive sports at the college level … for a total of 130 signing this school year!

Twelve Cherokee County School District Class of 2024 graduating seniors will be honored next month by the Cherokee County Sports Hall of Fame!

Cherokee County School District high school students earned top honors at the statewide literary competition!  The Georgia High Schools Association event includes writing, public speaking, acting and singing competitions, with region winners advancing to the recently held state competition.

Five Cherokee County School District students are advancing to the state level of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition!

The 2024 Coach of the Year finalist for each of the CCSD Innovation Zones was named on Tuesday, with the county winner slated to be announced later in May.

The Cherokee County School District has increased its Career Pathway high school programs, which provide students with a wide selection of job exploration and preparation electives, to 41 this school year.  Through CCSD Pathway Profiles, we’re profiling each of the three new programs … this profile focuses on the Web Development program offered at River Ridge and Woodstock High Schools. 

Cherokee County School District high school and middle school students won seats in the prestigious Georgia Music Educators Association All-State Band, Chorus and Orchestra.

Two Cherokee County School District schools recently were recognized for their support of the Georgia Department of Education’s Georgia Schools Care project.

Cherokee County School District students earned top honors at statewide career skills competitions!  High school students in various Career Pathway programs have the opportunity to join SkillsUSA co-curricular teams and participate in statewide learning and leadership events and competitions.

Cherokee County School District’s high schools, for the 14th consecutive year, have earned the state’s top honors for outstanding Advanced Placement (AP) programs and performance, with CCSD earning a record number of awards.

Cherokee County School District students are advancing to the regional level of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition!  The annual writing contest is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12 and provides an opportunity for schools to encourage writing in a variety of genres.

Sixty-one Cherokee County School District student artists are advancing to the state level of the annual PTA Reflections fine arts contest!  The national competition offers students in all grades and of all abilities the opportunity to create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts 2D and 3D.

All seven Cherokee County School District 2024 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists have advanced as Finalists!  They are: of Creekview HS, Peter Greenwell, Laura Hand and Kinley Sikes; of River Ridge HS, Rylan Radziewicz; of Sequoyah HS, Livana Lekas and Valor Lekas; and of Woodstock HS, Xavier Olsen.  

The Cherokee County School District on Thursday night celebrated 279 outstanding high school students as 2024 Superintendent’s Key Scholars!  These top students were recognized, through the 19th Annual Superintendent’s Key Scholar Recognition Ceremony, for scores achieved on the PSAT that rank them in the top 10% nationwide.  

Forty-five Cherokee County School District student athletes today signed commitment letters to play competitive sports at the college level! The students were honored with ceremonies at their high schools to celebrate their signing of National Letters of Intent. This week’s National Signing Day follows signing events held earlier this school year at which 57 CCSD student athletes signed to play on competitive college teams … for a total so far this year of 102 signings.

Congratulations to the Cherokee County School District’s 2024 STAR Students and Teachers!  The STAR, or Student Teacher Achievement Recognition, Student honor is awarded to the high school senior from each Georgia public and private high school with the highest score on any single test date of the SAT and who also ranks in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of his or her class based on grade point average.  Each honored student is invited to select his or her favorite teacher to be named that school’s STAR Teacher.

Wednesday February 7 is National Girls and Women in Sports Day; Cherokee County Schools celebrated the day on Monday with more than 500 female athletes from CCSD’s six high schools participating in the county's annual recognition and celebration event held this year at Cherokee High School.

Today’s #CCSDGives project is from River Ridge High School!  CCSD students learn the value of service year-round through charitable projects and volunteering.  During the holiday season, our schools stay especially busy with these projects.  To increase our students’ positive impact in the community, we will regularly share details of these projects with you through CCSDGives posts including how you can help.

The Cherokee County School District offers an annual program to prepare teachers for future leadership roles.  The Superintendent’s Leadership Academies (SLA) initiative gives teachers, support staff and school and district leaders the opportunity for professional development through various classes for different leadership experience levels.

CCSD’s Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) handbook, “Focus on the Future,” will be going home with 8th graders this month as they prepare to register for their high school classes.

The Holly Springs Optimist Club recently honored eight CCSD students, along with an outstanding teacher and a paraprofessional at its annual High School Awards breakfast, which recognizes outstanding special needs students and their supportive teachers and staff.

Cherokee County School District’s SAT scores increased and continue to top statewide and national results, according to results released today by the College Board.

Seven Cherokee County School District high school seniors today were named 2024 National Merit Scholarship Semifinalists!

They are: of Creekview HS, Peter Greenwell, Laura Hand and Kinley Sikes; of River Ridge HS, Rylan Radziewicz; of Sequoyah HS, Livana Lekas and Valor Lekas; and of Woodstock HS, Xavier Olsen.  Less than 1 percent of U.S. high school seniors earn National Merit Semifinalist recognition. 

An impressive number of Cherokee County School District students have earned national AP Scholar awards!  Every September, the AP Program recognizes an elite group of high school students from across the country who have demonstrated outstanding college-level achievement through their performance on multiple AP exams.  

The College Board honored 146 Cherokee County School District students through its National Recognition Programs awards!  The programs are designed by the College Board to provide recognition opportunities for high school seniors and juniors in underrepresented groups.

The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday, May 18, 2023 reviewed the proposed budget for next school year, which increases salaries for teachers and support staff, and approved the construction contract for the new replacement Cherokee High School campus.

Five Cherokee County School District Class of 2023 graduating seniors have earned $25,000 college scholarships from a community foundation!

It is the fourth year of the annual college scholarships presented by the Jason T. Dickerson Family Foundation.  This spring, the foundation planned to award two $25,000 scholarships, but its board was so impressed by the caliber of the applicants, they decided to award five scholarships!

A high school student success coach has earned a top honor from the Cherokee County Superintendent of Schools!

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower this week presented the 2023 Game Changer Award for Instructional Support to Kim Boehman, who serves as River Ridge High School’s student success coach.

Three Cherokee County School District students have graduated from a regional leadership program.

The Cherokee County School District will offer summer school learning opportunities from June 5-23 for high school students including rising ninth-graders.

CCSD will host a job fair for paraprofessionals, bus drivers and School Nutrition workers from 2:30 to 5 p.m. April 26 at 1020 Keeter Road, Canton 30114.

Tome Student Literacy Society is a national organization dedicated to promoting reading among fourth- through 12th-grade students through club activities, community service and competition.  

Hector Vicinte of Canton was the winner of the annual Shottenkirk Jeep Wrangler raffle, which raised more than $180,000 for CCSD high school athletics and arts programs this year.  School Board member Patsy Jordan drew the winning ticket on Saturday at the dealership in Canton. High school sports and arts programs sell the raffle tickets for $5 each throughout the fall and winter, and the schools are able to keep all the proceeds.

All of CCSD’s high schools this week were named 2023 AP Honor Schools for exceptional student performance and participation on AP exams, which offer students more challenging coursework and the opportunity to earn college credit.

The Cherokee County School District earned top awards for communications and community engagement including “Best in State” honors.

The Georgia School Public Relations Association’s annual awards program recognizes outstanding work by public schools, school systems, post-secondary institutions, and educational agencies and associations.  CCSD earned the most top honors presented at the association’s awards program held last month with five “Best in State” trophies and 14 Gold Awards.

More than 500 female athletes from Cherokee County's six high schools participated in the county's annual celebration of National Girls and Women in Sports Day (NGWSD), held Monday, January 30, at Woodstock High School.

The Cherokee County School District’s School Nutrition program has added a Halal menu item.
 
CCSD School Nutrition continuously updates school menus to keep up with student preferences, and last semester tested a new item in response to a request from students’ parents.

February is School Choice Month for the Cherokee County School District!  

In February, CCSD opens the opportunity for parents to request a school reassignment for the next school year, including our STEM, STEAM and Fine Arts Academies, and our online high school, i-Grad Virtual Academy.
