The Cherokee County School Board on Thursday heard a presentation from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Elizabeth Davis on her progress over the past month in the new role.  The school board also approved new school assistant principals for next school year.

Cherokee County School District kindergarten and new student registration now is open online for the 2024 -25 school year.  Parents of any student who will be new to CCSD for the 2024-25 school year can enter information and upload documents to complete the registration process online using CCSD’s Synergy system.  

Some CCSD parents may have received a negative meal account balance notification email from LINQ Connect in error today (March 4, 2024). Please disregard that notification. We have quickly resolved this occurrence. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

The Cherokee County School District celebrated outstanding school volunteers and business and community partners at the annual CCSD Partner of the Year and Volunteer of the Year Recognition Ceremony.  The ceremony on Thursday evening in the school board auditorium honored a Partner of the Year and a Volunteer of the Year for each individual school and center.  The evening included the surprise announcement of the CCSD Partner of the Year and Volunteer of the Year selected from that pool of honorees.

Cherokee County School District students are advancing to the regional level of the Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition!  The annual writing contest is open to students in grades kindergarten through 12 and provides an opportunity for schools to encourage writing in a variety of genres.

Sixty-one Cherokee County School District student artists are advancing to the state level of the annual PTA Reflections fine arts contest!  The national competition offers students in all grades and of all abilities the opportunity to create original works of art in the categories of dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography and visual arts 2D and 3D.

The Cherokee County School Board at its regular meeting tonight, Feb. 15, 2024, voted to officially hire Dr. Mary Elizabeth Davis as the county’s next Superintendent of Schools.

Dr. Davis currently serves as Superintendent of Schools for Henry County.  You can learn more about her extensive experience as an educator and leader online here.  Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower last fall announced he planned to retire this spring after nearly 40 years in education, including eight years in his current role.

The Cherokee County School District on Thursday night celebrated 279 outstanding high school students as 2024 Superintendent’s Key Scholars!  These top students were recognized, through the 19th Annual Superintendent’s Key Scholar Recognition Ceremony, for scores achieved on the PSAT that rank them in the top 10% nationwide.

Forty-five Cherokee County School District student athletes today signed commitment letters to play competitive sports at the college level! The students were honored with ceremonies at their high schools to celebrate their signing of National Letters of Intent. This week’s National Signing Day follows signing events held earlier this school year at which 57 CCSD student athletes signed to play on competitive college teams … for a total so far this year of 102 signings.

Congratulations to the Cherokee County School District’s 2024 STAR Students and Teachers!  The STAR, or Student Teacher Achievement Recognition, Student honor is awarded to the high school senior from each Georgia public and private high school with the highest score on any single test date of the SAT and who also ranks in the top 10 percent or top 10 students of his or her class based on grade point average.  Each honored student is invited to select his or her favorite teacher to be named that school’s STAR Teacher.

February is School Choice Month for the Cherokee County School District!  In February, CCSD opens the opportunity for parents to request a school reassignment for the next school year, including our STEM, STEAM and Fine Arts Academies; this year, registration for our online high school, i-Grad Virtual Academy, begins a little later on March 11.  Registration for Pre-K, kindergarten and Grades 1-12 new student enrollment for the next school year begins in March.

Fifty-four Cherokee County School District student athletes this week signed commitment letters to compete at the college level! The students were honored with ceremonies at their high schools to celebrate their signing of National Letters of Intent.  This week’s National Signing Day was the earliest day on which high school seniors can sign a binding commitment to play competitive college sports other than football.

CCSD is in the process of welcoming 30 new additions to its bus fleet, with new vehicles being delivered that will offer more safety features for its drivers and passengers while allowing the oldest buses in the fleet to be taken out of service.

The Cherokee County School Board at its regular meeting on Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023 heard an update on its search for the next superintendent of schools.  The school board earlier this month voted to contract with the Georgia School Boards Association (GSBA) for its support services to aid in the search.  Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower on Sept. 1 announced his plans to retire at the end of this school year.

It is the fourth year of the annual college scholarships presented by the Jason T. Dickerson Family Foundation.  This spring, the foundation planned to award two $25,000 scholarships, but its board was so impressed by the caliber of the applicants, they decided to award five scholarships!

Cherokee County School District students earned honors at an annual statewide literary competition, including two first-place wins!

Tome Student Literacy Society is a national organization dedicated to promoting reading among fourth- through 12th-grade students through club activities, community service and competition.

Hector Vicinte of Canton was the winner of the annual Shottenkirk Jeep Wrangler raffle, which raised more than $180,000 for CCSD high school athletics and arts programs this year.  School Board member Patsy Jordan drew the winning ticket on Saturday at the dealership in Canton. High school sports and arts programs sell the raffle tickets for $5 each throughout the fall and winter, and the schools are able to keep all the proceeds.

The national competition sponsored by the Congressional Institute recognizes exemplary artwork created by high school students.

The Cherokee County School District is kicking off its month-long celebration of the importance of literacy!

Every March, CCSD celebrates literacy beginning with Read Across America Day, a nationwide reading event that coincides with renowned children’s book author and illustrator Dr. Seuss’s March 2 birthday.  CCSD’s Office of Curriculum & Instruction coordinates the campaign, which supports the statewide Get Georgia Reading initiative and CCSD’s continued focus on improving literacy.

All of CCSD’s high schools this week were named 2023 AP Honor Schools for exceptional student performance and participation on AP exams, which offer students more challenging coursework and the opportunity to earn college credit.

These top students were recognized, through the 18th Annual Superintendent’s Key Scholar Recognition Ceremony, for scores achieved on the PSAT that rank them in the top 10% nationwide.

The Cherokee County School District earned top awards for communications and community engagement including “Best in State” honors.

The Georgia School Public Relations Association’s annual awards program recognizes outstanding work by public schools, school systems, post-secondary institutions, and educational agencies and associations.  CCSD earned the most top honors presented at the association’s awards program held last month with five “Best in State” trophies and 14 Gold Awards.

CCSD School Nutrition continuously updates school menus to keep up with student preferences, and last semester tested a new item in response to a request from students’ parents.

February is School Choice Month for the Cherokee County School District!  

In February, CCSD opens the opportunity for parents to request a school reassignment for the next school year, including our STEM, STEAM and Fine Arts Academies, and our online high school, i-Grad Virtual Academy.
